As stated in the BBC news published on 15th February 2019, the Chinese government made an official announcement that the tourists without climbing permits will be restricted to climb up the Everest Base Camp;limiting the number of permit issues only to 300 per year.An official from the Chinese Mountaineering Association (CMA) clarified that those limited climbers permitted would also be subject to abide by strict rules on environment protection. Thisimpliesthat the trekkers will be allowed to trek slightly below the base camp level, up to the Rongbuk monastery only which is at the altitude of about 5000 meters above sea level. They have though not confirmed until when this blockage would be implemented.
About 8 tons of trash was lifted from the Everest Base Camp in China last year. The increasing disposition of the human feces and the remains of some dead bodies in the site has also been a major concern for the Chinese Government. Therefore, the authorities reported that this decision has been taken for the purpose of ecological conservation; thus the trash and rubbish removal campaign shall be done until the further notice of reopening of the camp is published.
