The journey begins together with your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. A Nepal Hiking Team (NHT) staff will pick you up at the airport. He will then take you to the hotel in Kathmandu. No events are made for the night; you can unwind or visit the nearby markets.
Our Kathmandu journey starts amidst the city's colorful way of life, traveling to historical sites like Pashupatinath Temple and Boudhanath Stupa. Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, famous for Nepal's rich history, putting the stage for the approaching tranquility of the Poon Hill own family trek.
Leaving the city behind, our trip extends along the appealing route of Pokhara toward the breathtaking Annapurna mid-hills. Passing through vibrant rhododendron forests and quaint Gurung villages, we're embraced by the warmth of local hospitality. Ulleri, with its iconic stone steps, unveils the rich traditions of the Magar community, inviting us into their world. We will pass by Banthanti and Ghorepani on our journey.
Sunrise at Poon Hill ignites the Himalayas in a brilliant display, forever etching the majestic peaks onto our souls. Our trek descends to Ghandruk, a village cradled by the Gurung people, where a deep sense of accomplishment and connection to the Himalayas takes root. When To Book The Poon Hill Family Trek?
Before you step away for an extraordinary Family Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, let's uncover the perfect season for this unforgettable adventure. The refreshing mountain air, clean skies framing majestic snow-capped peaks, and gentle trails make spring and autumn the ideal seasons for the whole family to enjoy.
Spring and autumn offer comfortable temperatures, making the adventure a joy for the family. No sweltering warmth, no bone-chilling cold – just the proper balance for conquering the one's trails and reveling in the fresh mountain air. The paths are like ribbons unfurling via the panorama, free from the mud that monsoons can bring, making your trek a smoother and more exciting experience.
Winter, while offering its unique charm, demands extra layers and preparation. Monsoon, though tempting with its lush greenery, can make the trails challenging.
So, if you want to experience the beauty of the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek at its finest, plan your trip in Spring or Autumn.
How Challenging Is The Journey?
While it's true that the trek involves some uphill and downhill climbs, don't let that discourage you - this is an easy to moderate-trek that's suitable for most people with average physical fitness levels. The trail is also well-established. And there are plenty of opportunities to take breaks and rest along the way. As long as you can walk for 4-6 hours per day, you should be able to complete the trek without any issues.
Now, you may ask, is there any chance of getting altitude sickness? Well, the answer is no! You don’t need to worry about that. As the trek takes you to a high altitude of 3,210 m, there’s little to no chance of getting altitude sickness at this height. Thus, it would be the perfect holiday for your family.
Are There Any Alternative Adventures?
The answer is yes! There are several alternative adventures that you can look into if you don’t like this one.
The Mardi Himal Trek is the first one that you can look into. This trek is an excellent alternative for those looking for a less crowded trekking route. The trail takes you through traditional Nepalese villages and lush forests before ascending to high alpine terrain. The trek presents you with stunning views of Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna range.
Second up, we have the Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek. This trek takes you to the base of one of the highest peaks in the world, Annapurna I. Along the way, you'll pass through picturesque villages, terraced fields, and dense rhododendron forests, all while enjoying panoramic views of the Annapurna range.

Moving toward, we will visit Swayambhunath Temple, also known as the Monkey Temple. It's a historical religious site where monkeys roam freely.

Along the way, you may experience the extraordinary sights of Himchuli in the morning. As the experience progresses, the terrain will steadily rise to Nangethanti, "Thanti" in Nepali, the "region of rest."
From Nangethanti, hike to Ghorepani. Before reaching our final destination today, permit papers are rechecked, and we hold to Ghorepani, a contemporary village with numerous facilities, including warm water, bookstores, small stores, and bakeries.
During the trek, you may be treated to breathtaking perspectives of Annapurna I (8091 m), Hiunchuli (6441 m), Dhaulagiri I (8167 m), Nilgiri (6940 m), and their neighboring peaks.

You could even climb to the tower for the best 360-diploma vistas of the Mountains. Capture this particular second together with your own family and cherished ones.
Later, we head back on the same route to Ghorepani for breakfast. Then, we travel through the village of Deurali, with many ups and downs, via lush rhododendron forests. If the weather is good, we'll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Fishtail, Annapurna, etc.

We cross through dense forests and Bhaisi Kharka, passing by mules and the Annapurna Range.
We visit the Annapurna Conservation Office and the charming Gurung community and arrive at Ghandruk, a peaceful Gurung village. We will stroll around the Gurung Museum. Yet, the views of Mt. Annapurna, Himchuli, and Machhapurchhe are still stunning.
Day 08: Trek to Kimche (1 hour) Distance: 2 km then drive to Pokhara - 2 Hours
As our Poon Hill family trek comes to an end, we feel a mix of happiness and sadness. Today's hike is short and easy, taking us through green fields and downhill paths. We leave Ghandruk, cross the last bridge, and reach Kimche, a small village filled with greenery.
Then, we take a jeep back to Pokhara, enjoying the beautiful scenery and the changing landscapes, passing by charming villages and terraced farmlands along the way.
Although the family adventure trek has come to an end, the memories and the bond formed will stay with us forever, reminding us of the beauty of each and everything.

If you are wishing to visit Nepal and do some trekking, sightseeing or some other adventure, I'd say there is likely not many better companies to go with in Nepal. From the very first contact with them, Nepal Hiking Team and their Manager, Ganga, was prompt in his replies and provided all the necessary information. Ganga then advised on the best trip for us bearing in mind our time frames and what we wanted and then happily tailored a trip to suit us. On arrival, everything went absolutely smoothly from airport pick up to airport drop off and everything in between. The hotels and lodges we stayed in were very good and we always seemed to get preferential treatment from the owners maybe because we were from Nepal Hiking Team! The guide, Raj, was superb and made the trek even better than it was. Nothing was too much trouble for him. They even went to the efforts of organizing a surprise birthday cake when we were trekking for my wife when we finished one day in a Lodge. Also, when we stayed in Kathmandu after our trek, they very kindly offered to help us find some suitable accommodation at a discounted price they can get from the hotels. So in short, I'd have no hesitation in strongly recommending Nepal Hiking Team to anyone - you wont be disappointed. In terms of the trek we done, we tailored it slightly and omitted the Kathmandu sightseeing and in doing so, got a cheaper price. The trek was just about right for us and allowed time each day to relax in the lodge and small village we stayed in. On some days, we had the chance to get to know the local family. The trip is suitable for all ages who would likely go trekking with ample time to relax and spend some time in each location. Rebecca and Paul
Where can I begin? From the very first inquiry email which was replied by the owner, Ganga, to the first meeting of the team and the final days in Pokhara and Kathmandu, everything was professionally arranged with proper care for our family and well-being.
We chose Nepal Hiking Team after checking a number of factors: recent TripAdvisor reviews, familiarity of trekking with children, responsiveness, and ownership as we were looking for a Nepalese owned company. We are a family of 4 with two small children, almost 4 and just over 5 years old who have been on an extended tour around the world and we did not have much time to prepare. Plus, we did not originally planned on coming to Nepal. We have explored many cities and beaches, and we thought of getting into the peaks for some time. Trekking with a family with small kids and with such a wide range of fitness level was quite daunting, but Ganga did not flinch and proficiently recommended the wonderful trek (Ghorepani-Poon Hill-Ghandruk). We enjoyed right accommodations, planned extra stops for rest and for the kids to play, and put together with a team so incredible that my husband and I could not have been more delighted.
We were quite worried to start, as we were doubtful concerning whether the kids would take pleasure from the days hiking or being carried as the paths are quite steep. We met our guide, Arjun, the night before we head off to Pokhara who made us really comfortable. He was very experienced: calm, attentive, and professional. We also met with the rest of the team: 3 porters named Mithu, Arun, and Surendra (one for our luggage and one for each child, just in case). All were fantastic people especially Arun who immediately distinguished himself as almost a second guide. He was much helpful and responsive, proactive to meet to any of our needs or concerns, and our generally shy kids mixed-up with him immediately.
Arjun and Arun were ever patient, always thought of ahead, carefully outlined the course of the day, pre-arranged the best accommodations, thoughtful to get the kids biscuits and entertain with their playfulness. Each morning, we set out at 8AM and typically had approximately 5 hours of hiking, with well planned water and tea breaks. The trek itself was lovely which included walking through several villages, crossing a lot of rivers and waterfalls, and definitely the views of the Annapurna range were stunning. We were lucky to have clear visibility to witness the sun rise over the snow-topped peaks. The accommodations were perfect. The team seems to know all the finest places and we always got the opportunity to see great views from the rooms.
Without any doubt, this trekking experience will be amongst our top highlights of our family adventure whole year around the world. The trip turned out to be an unforgettable trip with the amazing services of the impeccable Nepal Hiking Team. I could not give a higher recommendation for the company than NHT. We met a number of others who were also hiking with NHT, and they also shared about the same satisfaction. There is no doubt that we will make a trip to Nepal (with kids a few years grown-up with longer legs to match the steps!) and we will certainly seek out NHT as well as recommend the outfit to our closest friends and family.
