Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a Nepal Hiking Team representative will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, guests will receive a brief orientation about the tour, route updates, logistics, and to clear any queries.
This orientation will help you feel prepared and comfortable for the days ahead. The remainder of the day is free to rest or explore the nearby areas.
Today, we will explore the rich cultural heritage of the Kathmandu Valley, starting from Swayambhunath Stupa. The stupa is also known as the Monkey Temple and is perched on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of Kathmandu city.
Continuing, we will explore the Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in Nepal. From here, we will head to Pashupatinath Temple, a revered Hindu site on the banks of the Bagmati River, to observe sacred rituals. Finally, explore Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where centuries-old palaces, courtyards, and temples reflect the history of the former Malla kings.
After an early breakfast, we will drive to Sankhu, a historic and traditional Newar village perched on the northeastern side of the Kathmandu Valley. We will begin our scenic day hike to Nagarkot from here, passing through terraced fields, forests, and small villages.
The hike from Sankhu to Nagarkot usually takes around 3 to 4 hours to complete; however, it also depends on one’s pace and trail conditions. As the route gradually climbs towards Nagarkot, we will witness spectacular views of the Himalayan range like Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and other surrounding peaks.
We will wake up early today to catch a majestic sunrise over the Himalayan landscape from Nagarkot. After breakfast, we head back to Kathmandu, briefly stopping at Bhaktapur Durbar Square, renowned for its intricate woodwork, pagoda-style temples, and centuries-old courtyards.
We will then explore Patan Durbar Square, a historic city known for its fine arts, temples, palace complexes, and artistic monuments. This day combines natural beauty with rich cultural immersion.

On the final day, our representative will pick you up from the hotel, and you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure approx. three hours before your flight.

Experience of a lifetime! Leading up to the trip, I felt some excitement and uncertainty because I was traveling from New Jersey to Nepal, so it was a trip to the other side of the world. Also knowing we were going to trek to the highest region in the world.

We were super well taken care of. Netra was quick to assess our physical abilities and was able to effectively set the pace for our hikes. He had very good knowledge of the route and terrain. Importantly, this was our first time attempting a hike at a high altitude, so he took extra care to check on us regularly.
On a personal note, proper gear, including a powerful down jacket for -20 degrees Celsius and a proper hiking backpack, is super essential.

The Nagarkot hike from Sankhu takes around 4 to 5 hours, depending on your walking pace, trail conditions, and mid-hike stops. The trail passes through traditional villages, terraced farmland, and forests before reaching Nagarkot, a popular hill station.
The best time to visit Nagarkot is from October to May, especially during the autumn (October-November) and spring (March-May) seasons. During these months, the skies are clear, the weather is good, and the routes are stable, with excellent Himalayan views.
