Read our genuine feedback from past travelers with Nepal Hiking Team sourced from TripAdvisor, Google, Facebook, and Trustpilot.
Experience of a lifetime! Leading up to the trip, I felt some excitement and uncertainty because I was traveling from New Jersey to Nepal, so it was a trip to the other side of the world. Also knowing we were going to trek to the highest region in the world.
Once we arrived in Kathmandu, we met up with our guide (Bhim). After a few minutes of talking with him, I felt a sense of calm and my excitement of joy grew from there. And I was right he and his team made sure we had the best experience possible.
The full trek going and coming was incredible. Our guide, Bhim, made sure we had the best experience. Can’t say enough of how wonderful he and his team made this one for the books!
I highly recommend booking with this company and Bhim! Namaste!
I just completed trekking in Nepal together with another solo traveler. The service of Nepal Hiking Team was exemplary from the start till the end. Nothing beats word-of-mouth good reviews.
Mr. Ganga has been very responsive to queries from Day 1 and was physically present even on the last day to officially close the loop for the package tour.
Our guide Bibek was very patient and sincere as he led us through the trek. He resolved issues with his heart and people skills and gave assurance whenever plans suddenly changed.
He ensured things were changed for the better. Our porter, Rajendran, was also good and always arrived ahead of time to ensure our rooms were confirmed.
- Guided by Bibek Dhamala
We had the best time in Nepal. The beautiful views and warm hospitality of the Nepali people are truly unparalleled.
Instrumental to our amazing experience were our guide, Netra, and porter, Vasu.
We were super well taken care of. Netra was quick to assess our physical abilities and was able to effectively set the pace for our hikes. He had very good knowledge of the route and terrain. Importantly, this was our first time attempting a hike at a high altitude, so he took extra care to check on us regularly.
On a personal note, proper gear, including a powerful down jacket for -20 degrees Celsius and a proper hiking backpack, is super essential.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Nepal Hiking Team and Netra/Vasu for your Nepal adventure!
We were a group of 17 people from California who had been preparing for a year for this trip. Nepal Hiking Team was referred to us by one of my friends. After talking to & interviewing several companies, NHT seemed very responsive, cost-effective & experienced. After the trip, they proved us nothing less.
Their guides are top-of-the-line, very kind, and helpful. They made sure we all were prepared for the next day, set our expectations rights, & guided us through managing altitude sickness.
We all made it to Nepal and came back happy and healthy.
We all thank NHT for making our dream come true, and looking forward to many more with them.
I highly recommend the Nepal Hiking Team for anyone planning to trek in Nepal. My spouse and I had a fantastic time on our trek and greatly credit our positive experience to the thought and care put into it by Nepal Hiking Team in coming up with a personalized plan that would enable us to succeed.
Every detail was considered to match us based on our abilities and interests. We also could not have felt more cared for minute to minute by the team that supported us from the minute we arrived in Kathmandu until our departure.
Our guide, Nim, was amazing -- so careful, thoughtful, warm, and supportive. And our porters, Sabin and Ganesh, were delightful. They were all unbelievably generous in terms of how much they worked to ensure we were comfortable and prepared. They thought of every detail along the way.

Nepal Hiking Team (NHT) excels in blending cultural immersion with outdoor adventure. For this specific tour, they manage both city sightseeing (including four UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu) and trekking logistics seamlessly. Past travelers consistently praise guides like Bhim, Bibek, Netra, and Nim for their deep cultural knowledge, patience, and ability to tailor the pace. The company's owner, Ganga, is personally involved in ensuring smooth operations, from airport pickup to farewell dinner. With NHT, you benefit from all-inclusive private transportation, experienced porters (2 trekkers: 1 porter), and attention to detail that makes cultural exploration stress-free.
The itinerary is designed to maximize cultural interaction. You'll explore Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple with a knowledgeable tour guide. During the trek, you pass through traditional Tamang villages like Mulkharka and interact with locals in Chisapani, Nagarkot, and Dhulikhel. The farewell dinner at a traditional Nepalese restaurant with cultural dance performance further immerses you in local customs. NHT's guides are locals who share authentic insights into daily life, festivals, and traditions beyond the typical tourist experience.
Reviews highlight the company's responsiveness and care. One couple noted that NHT created a "personalized plan that would enable us to succeed," with every detail considered. Another traveler praised guide Nim for being "amazing — so careful, thoughtful, warm, and supportive." The porters (Sabin, Ganesh, Rajendran) are frequently mentioned for arriving ahead of time to confirm rooms and ensuring comfort. Many guests emphasize that the combination of sightseeing and trekking allowed them to understand Nepal's diversity deeply. The 5-star service extends from airport transfers to the final drop-off.
On Day 1, a Nepal Hiking Team representative will greet you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer you to a 3-star category hotel in Kathmandu. Airport transfers are included in the package cost. After check-in, the team will brief you about the tour. This meet-and-greet service ensures a warm welcome and immediate assistance with any initial questions or currency exchange needs.
The Nepal entry visa is not included in the package. You can obtain a tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport. Fees are: US $40 for a 30-day multiple-entry visa, or US $100 for a 90-day multiple-entry visa. You'll need two passport-size photos and your passport. The visa process is straightforward; NHT staff can guide you at the airport if needed. Since this is a 7-day tour, the 30-day visa is sufficient if you're not extending your stay.
The trek from Sundarijal to Chisapani passes through Shivapuri National Park, requiring an entry permit. This permit is included in the package under "All government taxes and office service charges." Your guide will handle the permit at the park entrance. No TIMS card or restricted area permit is needed for this route.
You can book directly through the Nepal Hiking Team website or by email inquiry. A deposit (typically 20–30% of the total package cost) is required to confirm your reservation. The minimum group size is 2 persons, so solo travelers may need to join an existing group or pay a single supplement. For scheduled group departures, the deposit secures your spot. NHT accepts credit cards, bank transfer, and PayPal. After booking, you'll receive a detailed confirmation and pre-trip preparation guide.
NHT accepts major credit cards, wire transfers, and online payments. The package includes all ground transport, accommodation as specified (3-star in Kathmandu, Nagarkot, Dhulikhel; guesthouse in Chisapani), all meals as per itinerary, sightseeing entry fees, guides, porters, and farewell dinner. Exclusions are: international airfare, Nepal visa, meals not listed (e.g., lunch on Day 6 is not included; dinner on Day 6 is included as farewell), travel insurance, and tips for guides, porters, and driver. There are no hidden charges.
The tour has a minimum group size of 2 people. Solo travelers are welcome but may need to either join an existing group departure (if available) or pay a single supplement for private arrangements. Contact NHT directly to discuss options; they are flexible and can often accommodate solo travelers with adjusted pricing.
All ground transportation by private vehicle is included. This covers: airport transfers on arrival and departure, Kathmandu valley sightseeing on Day 2, the drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal (trek start) on Day 3, and the drive from Dhulikhel back to Kathmandu with stops at Bhaktapur and Patan on Day 6. You'll have a dedicated private vehicle for all these movements, ensuring comfort and flexibility. No internal flights are involved.
Yes, the drive on Day 6 is particularly scenic as it passes through the ancient cities of Bhaktapur and Patan. You'll stop to explore Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square — both UNESCO World Heritage Sites — with your guide. This turns a simple transfer into a full cultural tour. The vehicle will wait while you explore, then drop you at your Kathmandu hotel in the afternoon.
The trekking portion (Days 3, 4, and 5) is rated "Easy." You'll hike about 5 hours per day on well-defined trails with gradual ascents and descents. The maximum elevation is 2175m at Nagarkot, so altitude is not a concern. The trail includes sections through Shivapuri National Park, oak and rhododendron forests, and traditional villages. A basic fitness level is sufficient; you should be comfortable walking for 4–5 hours on hilly terrain.
Yes, due to its easy difficulty, this tour suits families with children aged 10+ who enjoy walking, as well as active seniors. The pace is adjustable, and your guide will tailor walking breaks. The private vehicle support means you could skip a trekking day if needed (though not recommended). The cultural sightseeing days involve walking in cities, which is also manageable. Discuss any mobility concerns with NHT beforehand so they can assign an appropriate guide.
You should be able to walk 4–5 hours with a light daypack (porters carry main luggage). Regular walking or light cardio leading up to the trip is beneficial. The trails have some stone steps and forest paths but are not technical. The guide will set a comfortable pace and ensure you have breaks. This tour is ideal for first-time trekkers who also want rich cultural experiences.
Your English-speaking trekking guide carries a first-aid kit and is trained in basic wilderness first response. The guide also monitors your health and ensures hydration. Porters carry your luggage, allowing you to focus on the trail. The group size is small (minimum 2, maximum usually 8–10), ensuring personal attention. In case of any emergency, vehicles can reach most points along the route (e.g., from Nagarkot or Dhulikhel) for evacuation.
NHT employs experienced guides like Bibek, Netra, Nim, and Bhim who are praised for their patience, terrain knowledge, and ability to assess trekker fitness. Porters are insured and properly equipped. The company ensures all staff are well-compensated, which translates to better service. Guides regularly check that you have enough water, proper clothing, and are adjusting to the walk. They also coordinate with guesthouses to confirm rooms ahead of time.
Shivapuri is home to wildlife like leopards and bears, but sightings on the main trail are rare. Your guide will advise on safe conduct (stay on trail, don't wander alone). The park is also a birdwatching haven with no significant threats. The main risks on this tour are minor slips on trails, which are mitigated by proper footwear and careful pacing.
For trekking: broken-in waterproof hiking boots, moisture-wicking base layers, a fleece or mid-layer, a waterproof/windproof jacket, and comfortable trekking pants. For city sightseeing: casual wear, comfortable walking shoes, and modest clothing for temple visits (shoulders and knees covered). Evenings can be cool, so pack a warm jacket. A daypack (20–30L) for water, snacks, camera, and rain gear is essential.
NHT provides an experienced guide and a porter for every two trekkers (porter carries up to 10–12 kg combined). You need your own daypack, hiking boots, and personal clothing. Trekking poles, sleeping bags, and down jackets can be rented in Kathmandu if needed — inform NHT in advance. For this tour, sleeping bags are only needed if you're sensitive to bedding; guesthouses provide blankets. A power bank, headlamp, and reusable water bottle are recommended.
For temple visits (Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Durbar Squares), it's respectful to dress modestly (long pants or skirts, covered shoulders). A scarf can be handy. Comfortable walking shoes for cobblestone streets are a must. You may also want a small notebook to jot down cultural insights from your guide.
The tour includes: 3 nights in a 3-star category hotel in Kathmandu (Days 1, 2, and 6) with breakfast; 1 night at a best-available guesthouse in Chisapani (Day 3) with full board meals; 1 night at a 3-star category hotel in Nagarkot (Day 4) with full board; and 1 night at a 3-star category hotel in Dhulikhel (Day 5) with full board. The 3-star hotels offer private rooms with attached bathrooms, while the Chisapani guesthouse is simpler with shared facilities.
Mobile network coverage is available in Chisapani (sporadic), Nagarkot (good), and Dhulikhel (good). Most 3-star hotels offer free WiFi. The guesthouse in Chisapani may have WiFi but it can be slow or charge a small fee. Your guide will have a local SIM for emergency communication. It's advisable to buy a local SIM in Kathmandu if you need consistent data.
In Chisapani, electricity is available in common areas but may be limited. Bring a power bank to ensure your devices stay charged. The hotels in Kathmandu, Nagarkot, and Dhulikhel have reliable charging points in rooms. Nepal uses 220V with Type C, D, and M sockets; a universal adapter is recommended.
Meal inclusions: Day 1: none (arrival day). Day 2: breakfast. Day 3: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Day 4: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Day 5: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Day 6: breakfast and farewell dinner (lunch not included). Day 7: breakfast. So most meals are covered except lunches on Day 2 (city tour day) and Day 6, and any meals in Kathmandu on free time. The farewell dinner is at a traditional Nepalese restaurant with cultural dance.
During the trek, you'll enjoy fresh Nepalese cuisine (dal bhat, momos, noodles) as well as continental options at guesthouses and hotels. Vegetarian and vegan options are widely available. NHT will communicate any dietary restrictions (allergies, preferences) to the kitchens. The farewell dinner offers a variety of local dishes. Let NHT know in advance to ensure smooth arrangements.
Bottled water is available for purchase, but to reduce plastic waste, bring a reusable bottle and use purification tablets or a filter. Your guide can direct you to safe water sources where boiled/filtered water may be available for a small fee. The 3-star hotels provide safe drinking water in rooms. Avoid untreated tap water.
Absolutely. Nepal Hiking Team specializes in individualized travel plans. If you prefer different accommodation, want to add extra days, or focus more on specific activities (e.g., more trekking, birdwatching, or meditation), they can tailor the itinerary. The package shown is a sample; you can request changes like adding a day in Nagarkot or extending the trek to other villages. Contact NHT with your preferences for a customized quote.
The listed package is available as group joining on fixed departure dates (usually several per month). Private tours are available any day and offer exclusive guide and vehicle, with a higher cost due to personalized service. Private tours also allow flexibility in pace and last-minute changes. The minimum group size for the standard price is 2 persons; solo travelers often opt for private tours with a single supplement.
Tipping is not included in the cost but is customary as appreciation for good service. A common guideline is 10–15% of the total tour cost shared among guide, porter, and driver, or roughly US $10–15 per day for the guide, US $5–8 per day for the porter, and US $5 per day for the driver. However, tips are at your discretion based on satisfaction. Your guide will handle distribution if you prefer.
This tour blends four major UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu (Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath) with ancient cities of Bhaktapur and Patan — making it a comprehensive cultural immersion. Unlike a single-day city tour, the itinerary spaces out sightseeing, with Day 2 focused on Kathmandu Valley sites and Day 6 dedicated to Bhaktapur and Patan. This avoids rushing and allows deeper exploration with the same knowledgeable guide throughout.
Dhulikhel is a beautiful town on the eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley, known for its spectacular sunrise views over the Himalayas (similar to Nagarkot but with a different perspective). It's less crowded and offers a peaceful atmosphere. The trek from Nagarkot to Dhulikhel passes through charming villages like Rohini Bhanjyang and terraced fields, giving you a complete cross-section of rural Nepalese life. The 3-star hotel in Dhulikhel provides a comfortable end to the trekking portion.
Yes, a highlight is the farewell dinner on Day 6 at a traditional Nepalese restaurant featuring a cultural dance performance. This is an immersive way to experience local music, dance, and cuisine. Additionally, during the trek, you'll have opportunities to interact with locals in Tamang villages and learn about their customs. The combination of sightseeing, trekking, and cultural evening makes this tour uniquely enriching.
