Instant Annapurna Base Camp Overview
The 8-day Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek is the shortest trek to Annapurna Base Camp(4,130m). The trek blends the scenic beauty of the Annapurna massif, Machhapurchhre, and the authentic Himalayan culture of Nepal with a refreshing touch of peace and solitude.
Destination
The ultimate goal of the 1-week Annapurna Trek is Annapurna Base Camp(4,130m), a grand natural amphitheatre framed by Annapurna Massif and Machhapuchhre. During this 8-day Annaparna Journey, you pass through iconic landmarks like Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700m) and authentic villages, including Chhomrong (2,170 m), Sinuwa (2,360 m), Bamboo (2,310 m), Dovan (2,600 m), and Deurali (3,230 m).
Elevation
The maximum elevation of the shortest Annapurna Base Camp trek is 4,130m at Annapurna Base Camp. The elevation range of the Instant ABC trek is 820m - 4,130m, with the lowest at Pokhara.
Duration
The duration of the Shortest Annapurna Trek is 8 days.
The Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek package offered by Nepal Hiking Team includes five trekking days: Jhinu Danda to Sinuwa (Day 2), Sinuwa to Deurali (Day 3), Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp via MBC(Day 4), Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (Day 5), and Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (Day 6).
Starting Point
After about a 2.5-hour drive from Pokhara to Jhinu Danda, the trek officially begins with a hike from Jhinu Danda to Sinuwa via uphills and downhills through Chommrong.
Difficulty Level
The trek is a condensed version of the standard Annapurna Base Camp Trek; the hassle may sound strenuous. However, it is worth noting that our team of experts has not compromised on the acclimatisation days and strategies at higher elevations during this rapid ABC trek.
Hence, the Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a moderate yet demanding trek.
The trek is justified as moderately demanding because of 5-7 hours of average walking in trekking days, and altitude gain from about 1,780m at Jhinu Danda to 4,130m at Annapurna Base Camp. The altitude remains within a relatively safe range compared to other base camp treks. Still, weather conditions and terrain status (especially in Monsoon and Winter) can add a challenge to this rapid trek.
Best time for Travel:
The instant Annapurna Base Camp trek is possible year-round. But clear skies in Autumn (September to November) and a dramatic canvas of Rhododendron in Spring (March - May) with predictable plus favourable weather conditions make this time of the year an ideal season for the Instant ABC trek.
Culture and People
The authentic cultures of the Gurung and Magar in the different villages (Chommrong, Sinuwa, Deurali) are known for their welcoming nature and warm hospitality. Interaction with locals and experiencing the life of the locals in the true gem of the Instant ABC trek.
Sceneries:
The Annapurna Sanctuary scenery ranges from lush Rhododendron and bamboo forests to cascading waterfalls and terraced hillsides. When we start to gain altitude, the landscapes transform into rocky cliffs, glacial valleys, and alpine meadows before opening to the spectacular amphitheatre of towering peaks at Annapurna Base Camp.
Base Camp of Annapurna, the iconic and ultimate destination of this 8-day trek, has a lot of splendid mountain scenery to offer. Here, you are framed by Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Machhapuchhre (6,993m), Hiunchuli (6,441m), Gangapurna (7,455m), Tharpu Chuli (5,695m), Vara Shikar/Fang (7,647m), and many other satellite peaks, including Annapurna III at 7,555m, Annapurna IV at 7,525m, Khangsar Kang at 7,485m, and Singu Chuli at 6,501m, completing the iconic 360-degree panorama.
Special Features
The week-long ABC trek is clearly distinct from other treks in the Annapurna Region, primarily due to its short duration. Yet, it offers a packed highland experience with deep cultural immersion in the Himalayas of Nepal.
Route Overview of Instant ABC Trek
Starting and Ending Point
After a 30-minute flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu on day 2, you drive about 2.5 hours to Jhinu Danda (1,780m). This is the trailhead of Instant ABC Trek.
The trek also ends in Jhinu Danda on day 6, where you descend from Bamboo (2,310m) via Chommrong. On this very day, you drive back to Pokhara.
Trail Terrain
The Instant ABC trail includes a blend of stone steps, steep ascents and descents, forest paths, and river crossings.
Stone Steps: Continuous up-and-down stone steps between Chommrong and Sinuwa can be a little tough on your knees.
Forest paths: The greenish forest paths are most prominent between Sinuwa and Bamboo, and again from Bamboo through Dovan to Deurali, where dense stands of Bamboo, oak, and rhododendrons create a cool, shaded, and refreshing atmosphere along the trail.
Steep Ascends and Descends
One of the most demanding climbs on the Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek comes on Day 2, with a steep ascent from Jhinu Danda to Chhomrong. After reaching the village, the trail drops sharply to Chhomrong Khola before rising once again to Sinuwa, making this stretch especially taxing.
Another major challenge appears on Day 4, as the route ascends steadily from Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp via Machhapuchhre Base Camp. The climb over rocky terrain at high altitude demands both stamina and steady pacing.
Weather Impact on the Route
Weather influences the route and trekking experience in the Annapurna Region. Clear skies in autumn (September-November), rhododendron bloom in spring (March-May), can ease the trek. Slippery trails in the summer (June - August) and snow patches in Winter(December-February) can add a challenge to the shortest ABC trek.
Day 02: Fly to Pokhara (820 m / 2,690 ft), 30 min flight, Drive to Jhinu Danda (1,780 m / 5,840 ft) - 2.5hrs - 55 km, Trek to Sinuwa (2,360 m / 7,742 ft) - 10 km, 5 hrs

Alternatives to Instant ABC Trek:
The shortest 8-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek is especially tailored for trekkers with limited time. If you are flexible with your time and want an extensive experience on the journey to Annapurna Base Camp, we have more variations of the Instant ABC trek to offer you.
11-Day Annapurna Sanctuary Trek
The 11-day Annapurna Sanctuary Trek offers a rewarding alternative to the shorter 8-day Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek. With just three additional days, this route opens the door to some of the region’s most iconic highlights.
You’ll climb the famous Ulleri steps and pass through famous Ghorepani, witness a breathtaking sunrise over Dhaulagiri from Poon Hill, and enjoy more unhurried time in welcoming villages such as Chuile. These extra days make the journey more varied and memorable without adding excessive difficulty.
For both the Instant and Sanctuary treks, transportation between Kathmandu and Pokhara is arranged by air, ensuring convenience and comfort before and after your trek.
Unlike the fast-paced Instant ABC Trek, the 14-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek itinerary is designed for steadiness and sustainability.
Your journey begins in Birenthanti (a 2.5-hour drive from Pokhara) and follows a more gradual route through Hile, Ulleri, and Ghorepani, with a memorable detour to Poon Hill for sunrise views.
The trail continues via Chuile before reaching Sinuwa, creating a smoother transition into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. On the return, the trek includes a night at Jhinu Danda, where natural hot springs offer a restorative break before concluding the journey.
By stretching the journey over 14 days, this trek minimizes exhausting climbs, reduces stress on the knees during descents, and gives you more energy to appreciate every step toward Annapurna Base Camp.
NOTE: All these alternatives include ABC as the final and ultimate destination. Other treks are also available in the Annapurna Region. You can check more on the topic on our website.

Packing tips for Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek:
Packing required thoughtful consideration for the Instant ABC trek. Please pack your bag, reviewing the following tips.
Each trekker’s load should weigh no more than 12.5 kg. Your porter carries this load throughout the trek.
One porter is assigned to two clients (2 clients: 1 porter). The porter carries a maximum of 25 kg.
You should carry a personal waterproof backpack. Here in this backpack, you have your daily essentials, mainly personal cash, a water bottle (non-plastic) and valuables, including a camera and phone.
Packing should be done strategically. Your porters will generally be unpaced. You are likely to see them in the guesthouses, lodges and sometimes during lunch stops. Thus, pack your essentials in the personal backpack.
You can store your non-trekking luggage at the hotel in Kathmandu. The storage of stored luggage is handled by the hotel. Your luggage is claimed after the Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek.
During packing your wears, be mindful that anything that mocks the locals and culture should be avoided. Revealing clothes and informal clothing should be avoided for good reasons.
Choose comfortable, windproof and sweat-absorbing clothing for the trek.

Fundamental Guide for 8-day Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek
Preparing for the Annapurna trek requires strategic planning and setting realistic expectations.
Comprehensive Travel Insurance: Travel Insurance is compulsory and non-negotiable. You should choose high-altitude insurance that covers medical treatment and helicopter evacuation up to 4500 meters. You can check the recommended travel insurance providers here.
Early Booking Advantage: Early booking secures experienced guides, quality hotels in Kathmandu, and the best guesthouses at altitude, especially during peak season.
Currency Planning: Carry Nepali rupees. ATMs are reliable in Kathmandu and Pokhara, but rare in smaller villages. Prepare cash in advance for personal expenses.
Physical Preparation: With a maximum altitude of 4,130m, prepare with cardio, walking, and stair climbing. You should be comfortable walking 5–7 miles daily.
Electricity on the Trek: Most teahouses offer electricity via solar or hydro power. Charging may incur an additional cost; consider carrying a power bank as a backup.
Cultural Encounters: In Chhomrong and deurali, you should meet Gurung and Tamang locals, and enjoy warm hospitality and cultural stories over dal bhat.
Trail Conditions: Routes are well-marked and accessible, with forests, terraced fields, and mountain villages. The section between Machhapuchhre Base Camp and ABC is steeper and rockier.
Accommodation: Lodges at Chhomrong usually offer twin rooms. Beyond, expect dorm-style rooms (3–4 trekkers) with shared bathrooms.
Communication Setup: Purchase a local SIM card (NTC or Ncell) for reliable connectivity. Wifi is limited at higher altitudes.

Annapurna Sacntuary Trek - 8 days
We had a sensational eight-day trek to Annapurna Base Camp. Our guide, Bhishma, impressed us with his knowledge and care, and his excellent English made communication easy. He also managed all the details, including accommodation, flights, and ground transport, which ran smoothly throughout.
The trek itself created lasting memories. We faced wild and wet weather that turned rivers and waterfalls into torrents, navigated a challenging trail with countless stone steps, and enjoyed spectacular mountain views. Along the way, we stayed in interesting guesthouses, met locals, and finally reached the Annapurna Massif for some unforgettable views.
Ganga, the CEO of Nepal Hiking Team, was great to deal with, responded quickly to our questions, addressed any concerns, and added his personal touch.

Nepal Annapurna Base Camp Trek
We discovered for ourselves why Nepal Hiking Team was the best tour operator in Nepal. Being a group of 6 non-regular hikers with differing fitness levels, and with very restrictive company leave policies, we wrote to NHT (Mr Ganga) to ask if it was possible to climb to Annapurna Base Camp in 9 days. Mr Ganga not only patiently answered our queries (through more than 30 emails!), but he also managed to craft the perfect itinerary for us, including calibrated route lengths each day, and ample R&R time in Kathmandu and Pokhara pre- and post-trek. We greatly appreciated his patience and dedication in making our trek work within our time constraints.
NHT's two guides, Deepak and Bishal, were the best local guides we could ever ask for. They were professional in guiding us through the trek, taking close care of us despite our differing paces, and attending to our every need such as getting food and water promptly. They skillfully adjusted our itinerary on the fly based on our projected paces by calling ahead to guesthouses to plan our accommodations. Most importantly, they were like our great friends chatting to us, keeping our morale high, and accompanying us for great food during our R&Rs Halfway through, when 4/6 of our team developed knee pain from the brutal route, they immediately sourced horses and helped them down the path safe and sound.
I cannot recommend NHT, Mr Ganga, and Mr Deepak / Bishal enough! If we get a chance to return to Nepal, I won't hesitate at all to reach out to them again.

Annapurna Base Camp Trekking - 2025
In April 2025, I completed the Annapurna with a friend. It was an incredible experience for the stunning landscapes we traveled through, but also thanks to our guide Dilman and porter Ratna, who made the journey even more special. They took exceptional care of us, always listened carefully to our concerns, and gave us confidence and reassurance, especially when we faced snowfall on the way to Thorong La Pass. The trip was a success because of them.
I'd also like to acknowledge Balaram, the manager. Excellent professionals like these are what make this company truly outstanding. I'm very grateful and I love Nepal!

Annapurna Base Camp Trek - 14 days
Not long ago, I accomplished a trek to Annappurna Base Camp with one of the fantastic guides, Surya Rokaya. Even though the trek to ABC was challenging, the guide and company took fabulous care of us throughout the entire time.
Our guide never walked too far ahead when we were going slow—something we really appreciated, especially after seeing other guides leave their groups behind. The whole trip was smooth from start to finish.
This was my second trek with Nepal Hiking Team, and I’d happily go with them again. I’d recommend them to anyone thinking about trekking in Nepal!

Annapurna Base Camp 11 days Trek
We recently completed an 11-day trek to Annapurna Base Camp with Nepali Hiking Team, and it was an incredible experience. I highly recommend this group for any of their tours.
We arranged our own accommodation in Kathmandu, and the team from Nepali Hiking Team met us at our hotel. From there, they took care of everything. Our guide, Prakash Sapkota, and our porter, Mr. Gokul, were experts in every aspect of the trek. They briefed us on the next day's itinerary each evening, making mornings a breeze. They were particularly attentive when my friend caught a cold midway through. Prakash knew exactly where to find the necessary medicine, allowing us to continue with minimal disruption.
The evenings were a highlight, learning and playing Nepali card games like Kitti and Dhumbal. I suggest picking up the rules to these games and bringing a deck of cards—it really helps the time fly by.
I’m certain we wouldn’t have made it without Prakash and Gokul. If you’re considering a trek to ABC, I can’t recommend Nepali Hiking Team and their attentive staff enough.

What is the difference between the 8-day Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek and other ABC treks, like the 11-day Annapurna Sanctuary Trek and the 14-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
All the ABC treks have an ultimate destination to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m), but the duration and pacing strategies, pricing, transportation, and accommodation differentiate them all. Especially in the 8-day Instant ABC trek, you follow the path to ABC via Jhinu Danda, which is the return journey of the 11-day and 14-day ABC trek.
Currently, 12 countries and refugees with valid travel documents require a visa before arrival. The countries include Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and Syria. To apply for the arrival visa, you must complete the online form on the official website of the Immigration Department of Nepal within 15 days and bring the submission receipt with you. Payment is to be made at Tribhuvan International Airport via cash or card. Your passport should be valid for at least six months with one blank page available for a visa stamp. For more details, visit our Nepal Visa Information Page.
Do you arrange airport pickup and drop-off services?
Yes, we provide both airport pickup and drop-off for all Instant ABC trek bookings. Our team representative will be waiting with a “Nepal Hiking Team” placard at the airport. After your trip ends, we’ll safely transport you to TIA three hours before your flight. If you arrive earlier or extend your trip, we’ll adjust the schedule accordingly.
Where will I stay in Kathmandu? Can I upgrade the hotel?
Our package includes 3-star hotels in Thamel (2 nights), such as Woodapple Hotel & Spa. Yes, we can upgrade your accommodation in Kathmandu upon your request. The upgrade will incur an extra cost depending on your preferred hotel.
How much does an extra night’s accommodation in Kathmandu cost?
The cost is USD 45 (single) or USD 50 (twin/double) per night, including breakfast and taxes. Our team will arrange your reservation if you arrive early or extend your stay after the trek.
What happens during the pre-trek briefing in Kathmandu?
During the pre-trek briefing, we introduce your guide, collect a copy of your passport and travel insurance, and finalise any remaining balance of your trek. We also provide essential gear, including a down jacket, sleeping bag, cap, Annapurna Base Camp Trek map, and a duffel bag. If the payment for your trip is incomplete, then it can be arranged in the pre-trip discussion.

Why is the Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek so short compared to other ABC treks?
Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek is an 8-day-long condensed and fast-paced version of other ABC treks like the 14-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek. The Instant ABC trek is short because, on day 2, we directly reach Chommrong via Jhinu Danda. Other ABC treks start from the alternative and longer route, beginning at Birenthati and passing through Ulleri, Hile, Nangthanti, Ghorepani, Poon Hill, and Chuile, then to Chommrong.
Transportation and Flight
Are flights between Pokhara and Kathmandu reliable? Do weather delays occur often?
The flight between Pokhara and Kathmandu takes about 30 minutes and is generally smooth. However, weather conditions such as fog, rain, or low visibility may cause delays and rescheduling, particularly during the monsoon season (June–August) and winter (December–February). In peak trekking seasons, delays are rare due to clear skies and predictable weather conditions.
What is the starting point of the 8-day Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
The trek officially begins on day 2 from Jhinu Danda, heading to Bamboo via Chommrong. The Instant ABC Trek has a total duration of 8 days with five walking days. The highest elevation is Annapurna Base Camp Trek at 4130m.
Trekkers’ Well-being and Safety
Do I need travel insurance for the 8-Day Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Yes, travel insurance is compulsory and non-negotiable. The maximum elevation is 4,130m at Annapurna Base Camp, so your policy must cover up to 4,500m, including emergency air evacuation, repatriation, trip cancellation or delay coverage, and compensation for lost or damaged gear. Based on feedback from past trekkers, we recommend these trusted travel insurance providers.
What safety measures do your guides take on the trek?
Our government-licensed local guides are trained in high-altitude safety. They carry a first-aid kit and an oximeter to measure oxygen levels daily, allowing quick response to any altitude sickness symptoms. With 25+ years of expertise, we’ve designed an acclimatisation-friendly itinerary to minimise risks. If needed, guides can organise an immediate helicopter evacuation. We also ensure that teahouses are hygienic and reliable throughout the route.
What is the best time for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
The best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). These months offer stable weather, clear skies, and breathtaking Himalayan views. However, trails can be crowded during this period.
Can I hike to Annapurna Base Camp during summer and winter?
Yes, the trek is open year-round. Monsoon (June–August) and winter (December–February) are quieter, but trekkers face challenges such as slippery trails, unpredictable weather, flight delays, and limited Himalayan views.
Do I need vaccines for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Vaccines are not mandatory for entry into Nepal or for this trek. However, some travellers choose rabies vaccination due to stray dogs in villages like Chommrong and Deurali. We strongly recommend consulting your doctor before travelling.
How can I avoid altitude sickness on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Although the elevation is moderate, precautions are essential. You should stay hydrated (3–4 litres daily), maintain a steady pace, eat well, and avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine. Diamox medication may help if needed. Our guides monitor trekkers daily to ensure safe acclimatisation.
Trek Preparation and Gear Packing
Do I need prior trekking experience for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
No, the 8-day Instant ABC Trek does not demand any previous trekking experience. The trail includes steady climbs and descents but no technical sections. Prior hiking experience is an advantage, but beginners with preparation and reasonable fitness can complete the trek successfully.
How can I prepare physically and mentally for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Physical training makes a huge difference. Combine cardio (running, cycling, stair climbing) with strength exercises for your legs and core. Mentally, you can watch trek videos or read experiences to visualise the route, challenges, and scenery. Preparing both physically and mentally ensures confidence and stamina on the trail.
How fit do you need to be for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
The trek requires a reasonable fitness level. Expect to walk 5–7 hours daily with frequent ascents and descents. Beginners should train with cardio and strength routines. Proper acclimatisation, pacing, and hydration help prevent fatigue and altitude issues.
What is the hardest part of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
The most challenging section is the climb from Machhapuchhre Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp. The altitude, thinner air, and changing weather make it strenuous, but the views of the Annapurna massif make the effort worthwhile. Day 2 of the 8-day Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek can be a little fast-paced. This day combines a 30-minute flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu, a 2.5-hour drive to Jhinu Danda, a steep descent to Chommrong, and a steep ascent to finally reach Sinuwa.
How many walking days are in the 8-day Instant Annapurna Base Camp trek?
The Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek package offered by Nepal Hiking Team includes five trekking days: Jhinu Danda to Sinuwa (Day 2), Sinuwa to Deurali (Day 3), Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp via MBC (Day 4), Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (Day 5), and Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (Day 6).
Accommodation and Connectivity
Is Wi-Fi available on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Wi-Fi is available in lower villages like Chhomrong and Bamboo, while higher-altitude lodges offer basic connections. Many trekkers prefer buying a local SIM card. NTC has better coverage than Ncell, though the signal weakens beyond Sinuwa.
What is the accommodation like on the 8-day Instant ABC trek?
Up to Chhomrong, lodges usually offer twin rooms. Beyond that, dormitory-style rooms for 3–4 trekkers are standard. Bathrooms are outside, with squat and Western toilets available. During peak season, even private trekkers may need to share rooms due to limited space.
Can you charge your phone on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Yes, charging is widely available at teahouses, sometimes free or for a fee. During busy seasons, facilities may be limited. Carrying a backup power bank ensures reliability.
Meals and Drinking Water
What food is available on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Meals are freshly prepared in teahouses. Options include dal bhat, roti, vegetables, noodles, and fried rice. Meat is banned beyond Sinuwa for cultural and health reasons. Dal bhat is highly recommended for its energy and nutrition. You can study more about Food and meals in the Instant Annapurna Base Camp Trek here.
What are the water options on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Plastic bottles are banned from the Chommrong village to the Annapurna Base Camp. Trekkers must carry reusable bottles. Tap and stream water is available but requires purification with tablets, filters, or drips. Teahouses sell hot water at NPR 50–150 per litre in lower villages and NPR 200–500 at higher elevations.
Customisation: Private vs Group
Can I customise the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
Yes, we can customise the trek based on your preferences. You may add sightseeing days in Pokhara, adjust trekking pace, upgrade transportation, or select higher-standard accommodation. Our team is flexible and committed to tailoring the journey to your needs.
What are the extra costs on the trek? How much cash should I carry?
While your package includes meals, accommodation, permits, and guides, personal expenses are not covered. These may include Wi-Fi and charging fees at teahouses, drinking water (boiled or filtered), hot showers along the route, snacks and soft drinks, personal toiletries, and hygiene products. On average, trekkers should budget NPR 20,000–30,000 (USD 150–225) for the trek, excluding tips. The final amount depends on your spending habits.
Are there ATMs available along the Annapurna Base Camp Trek route?
No, there are no reliable ATMs after leaving Pokhara. Machines in remote areas often fail due to technical issues. The best option is to withdraw cash in Kathmandu or Pokhara before starting your trek. If carrying foreign currency, exchange it into Nepalese Rupees (NPR) at authorised outlets in Thamel or Pokhara for fair rates.
Can I use foreign currency on the Instant ABC trek?
No, only Nepalese Rupees (NPR) are accepted in the trekking regions. Other currencies cannot be used. To avoid difficulties, carry enough cash in NPR before beginning your trek.
How much should I tip? Is it mandatory?
Tipping is a long-standing part of trekking culture in Nepal. Our guides and porters are fairly paid, insured, and well looked after, but it is customary to thank them with a tip at the end of the Instant ABC trek. The amount varies depending on your overall experience, group size, and time spent with the team. In the end, the choice of how much to give remains entirely yours.
