ABC Trek Route Overview for Senior

Let us provide you with an overview of the route that will take you to the magnificent Annapurna Base Camp.

The journey begins upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, where one of our staff members will be waiting to receive you and transfer you to your hotel. From there, we will travel on a 6-7 hour drive to reach Pokhara. Once in Pokhara, we will continue our journey by driving to Birenthanti and then commence a hike to Ulleri. The trek resumes from Ulleri Village, leading us through Ghorepani, Poon Hill, Tadapani, and finally to Chhomrong Village.

From Chhomrong Village, we will proceed towards Dovan, Deurali, and then Machhapuchare Base Camp. After taking some well-deserved rest at the camp, we will ascend toward our ultimate destination, the Annapurna Base Camp. Following this remarkable achievement, we will make our descent to Dovan, Chhomrong, and ultimately return to Pokhara. At this point, we will have the option to either take a flight or drive back to Kathmandu, where we will bid farewell to this extraordinary journey.

How is the Annapurna Base Camp Trek for Seniors different from others?

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek for Seniors distinguishes itself from standard treks in several ways.

Firstly, the distance between hiking camps is shortened in this trek. While the standard Annapurna Base Camp Trek typically takes 14 days, the senior trek extends to 15 days to allow for a more relaxed pace.

Secondly, the senior trek features shorter trekking camps compared to the standard ABC trek. For instance, in the regular ABC trek, we continue from Machhapuchare Base Camp towards the Annapurna Base Camp. However, in the senior trekking package, we will halt at Machhapuchare Base Camp while heading towards the Annapurna Base Camp.

Lastly, we will provide you with a dedicated trekking guide for the senior trek. This guide will be kind, respectful, and sensitive towards the senior members of the group. They will maintain an average pace that considers everyone's timing and speed. Priority will always be given to those who experience difficulty while walking.

When is the best time for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek for Seniors?

The best time for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek for Seniors and kids is during the months of March to May and September to November. While the Annapurna region can be trekked throughout the year, these specific seasons are highly recommended.

March to May falls within the Spring season, which is considered one of the best times for the trek. Similarly, September to November is in the Autumn season, also known as the peak season for the trek. The weather conditions during these seasons are generally favorable for hiking, with moderate temperatures and clear skies.

On the other hand, the monsoon season (June to August) and winter season (December to February) are not advisable for trekking due to heavy rainfall and snowfall, respectively. During these periods, the routes can become slippery and blocked, increasing the risk of injuries and making the trek more challenging.

Therefore, it is strongly recommended to plan your Annapurna Base Camp Trek for Seniors during the months of March to May or September to November for the best experience.

  • Nepal Annapurna Base Camp Trek

We discovered for ourselves why Nepal Hiking Team was the best tour operator in Nepal. Being a group of 6 non-regular hikers with differing fitness levels, and with very restrictive company leave policies, we wrote to NHT (Mr Ganga) to ask if it was possible to climb to Annapurna Base Camp in 9 days. Mr Ganga not only patiently answered our queries (through more than 30 emails!), but he also managed to craft the perfect itinerary for us, including calibrated route lengths each day, and ample R&R time in Kathmandu and Pokhara pre- and post-trek. We greatly appreciated his patience and dedication in making our trek work within our time constraints.

NHT's two guides, Deepak and Bishal, were the best local guides we could ever ask for. They were professional in guiding us through the trek, taking close care of us despite our differing paces, and attending to our every need such as getting food and water promptly. They skillfully adjusted our itinerary on the fly based on our projected paces by calling ahead to guesthouses to plan our accommodations. Most importantly, they were like our great friends chatting to us, keeping our morale high, and accompanying us for great food during our R&Rs Halfway through, when 4/6 of our team developed knee pain from the brutal route, they immediately sourced horses and helped them down the path safe and sound.

I cannot recommend NHT, Mr Ganga, and Mr Deepak / Bishal enough! If we get a chance to return to Nepal, I won't hesitate at all to reach out to them again.

  • Annapurna Base Camp Trekking - 2025

In April 2025, I completed the Annapurna with a friend. It was an incredible experience for the stunning landscapes we traveled through, but also thanks to our guide Dilman and porter Ratna, who made the journey even more special. They took exceptional care of us, always listened carefully to our concerns, and gave us confidence and reassurance, especially when we faced snowfall on the way to Thorong La Pass. The trip was a success because of them.

I'd also like to acknowledge Balaram, the manager. Excellent professionals like these are what make this company truly outstanding. I'm very grateful and I love Nepal!

  • Annapurna Base Camp Trek - 14 days

Not long ago, I accomplished a trek to Annappurna Base Camp with one of the fantastic guides, Surya Rokaya. Even though the trek to ABC was challenging, the guide and company took fabulous care of us throughout the entire time.

Our guide never walked too far ahead when we were going slow—something we really appreciated, especially after seeing other guides leave their groups behind. The whole trip was smooth from start to finish.

This was my second trek with Nepal Hiking Team, and I’d happily go with them again. I’d recommend them to anyone thinking about trekking in Nepal!

  • Annapurna Base Camp 11 days Trek

We recently completed an 11-day trek to Annapurna Base Camp with Nepali Hiking Team, and it was an incredible experience. I highly recommend this group for any of their tours.

We arranged our own accommodation in Kathmandu, and the team from Nepali Hiking Team met us at our hotel. From there, they took care of everything. Our guide, Prakash Sapkota, and our porter, Mr. Gokul, were experts in every aspect of the trek. They briefed us on the next day's itinerary each evening, making mornings a breeze. They were particularly attentive when my friend caught a cold midway through. Prakash knew exactly where to find the necessary medicine, allowing us to continue with minimal disruption.

The evenings were a highlight, learning and playing Nepali card games like Kitti and Dhumbal. I suggest picking up the rules to these games and bringing a deck of cards—it really helps the time fly by.

I’m certain we wouldn’t have made it without Prakash and Gokul. If you’re considering a trek to ABC, I can’t recommend Nepali Hiking Team and their attentive staff enough.

  • ABC in march - 2025

I am still so in awe of the wonderful experience I had in Nepal! Thanks to Nepal Hiking Team, I could solely focus on the trekking (which was really necessary...) and the astounding nature and clear my head like I hoped I could. The itinerary could be customized for me and during the whole experience, I felt very taken care of.

I am very thankful for my guide Bhisma who has been the most reliable, fun and interesting companion who clearly loves what he does. He helped me out when my knee started acting up and always looked out for me in general. If you're lucky, you'll have the pleasure of hearing his fantastic singing voice! Rupesh, my porter, has been very friendly and a great support as well.
