An experience of a lifetime to EBC

Kate Harding, Melbourne Australia

We are so happy with our experience with Nepal Hiking Team and are going to be recommending it to all of our friends who are interested in hiking to EBC. The guys at the Kathmandu office were really friendly, professional and extremely accommodating. They organized everything quickly and even had our guide, Raj, come to the office on call to meet us before we had agreed to do the hike with them. Once we booked, Raj took a few hours to take us around Thamel to buy ALL of our gear at an outlet store, saving us probably a lot more money and time than what we would have spent without his help. The whole trip Raj was extremely helpful and encouraging. We joked around and laughed the whole way up the hike which was really awesome when you’re tired from trekking! Our porter, Frame, was a sweet guy from the Lukla area who rarely talked but always had a big smile on. When we got back to Kathmandu the guys at the office made sure that everything went ok on our trip. Their service exceeded our expectations which made the entire hike just that much more enjoyable! NHT Highly recommended!

Amazing Family Trekking

We experienced Everest Base Camp trek, with our 11 year old son. Without any hesitation Nepal Hiking Team arranged amazing family trekking with a child and made the whole experience really memorable as well as easy. Everything was organized perfectly as we dealt with Ganga and his team who boosted our confidence day by day.

During our planning and booking stages, we were really impressed by the timely and detailed contact from Ganga. Upon arrival in Nepal, we met him and his team and started our trek, we were really impressed by the experience, knowledge imparted, care as well as attention given by our guide- Bal Kumar demonstrated.

The whole team was proactive and was much concerned about our every situation as well as needs and made us feel that we were trekking as a family. We are owed to trek with professional and a highly experienced team. I would recommend Nepal Hiking Team heartily and without hesitation.

Perfect family trekking experience

Where can I begin? From the very first inquiry email which was replied by the owner, Ganga, to the first meeting of the team and the final days in Pokhara and Kathmandu, everything was professionally arranged with proper care for our family and well-being.

Poon Hill

We chose Nepal Hiking Team after checking a number of factors: recent TripAdvisor reviews, familiarity of trekking with children, responsiveness, and ownership as we were looking for a Nepalese owned company. We are a family of 4 with two small children, almost 4 and just over 5 years old who have been on an extended tour around the world and we did not have much time to prepare. Plus, we did not originally planned on coming to Nepal. We have explored many cities and beaches, and we thought of getting into the peaks for some time. Trekking with a family with small kids and with such a wide range of fitness level was quite daunting, but Ganga did not flinch and proficiently recommended the wonderful trek (Ghorepani-Poon Hill-Ghandruk). We enjoyed right accommodations, planned extra stops for rest and for the kids to play, and put together with a team so incredible that my husband and I could not have been more delighted.

feeling good

We were quite worried to start, as we were doubtful concerning whether the kids would take pleasure from the days hiking or being carried as the paths are quite steep. We met our guide, Arjun, the night before we head off to Pokhara who made us really comfortable. He was very experienced: calm, attentive, and professional. We also met with the rest of the team: 3 porters named Mithu, Arun, and Surendra (one for our luggage and one for each child, just in case). All were fantastic people especially Arun who immediately distinguished himself as almost a second guide. He was much helpful and responsive, proactive to meet to any of our needs or concerns, and our generally shy kids mixed-up with him immediately.

Arjun and Arun were ever patient, always thought of ahead, carefully outlined the course of the day, pre-arranged the best accommodations, thoughtful to get the kids biscuits and entertain with their playfulness. Each morning, we set out at 8AM and typically had approximately 5 hours of hiking, with well planned water and tea breaks. The trek itself was lovely which included walking through several villages, crossing a lot of rivers and waterfalls, and definitely the views of the Annapurna range were stunning. We were lucky to have clear visibility to witness the sun rise over the snow-topped peaks. The accommodations were perfect. The team seems to know all the finest places and we always got the opportunity to see great views from the rooms.

Without any doubt, this trekking experience will be amongst our top highlights of our family adventure whole year around the world. The trip turned out to be an unforgettable trip with the amazing services of the impeccable Nepal Hiking Team. I could not give a higher recommendation for the company than NHT. We met a number of others who were also hiking with NHT, and they also shared about the same satisfaction. There is no doubt that we will make a trip to Nepal (with kids a few years grown-up with longer legs to match the steps!) and we will certainly seek out NHT as well as recommend the outfit to our closest friends and family.

Outstanding Everest Base Camp Trek

Ken, Brisbane, Australia

Just arrived home after such a fabulous experience! Both Balaram and Ganja were very attentive and made sure our time in Kathmandu met all expectations. Our guide Prakash was awesome! He spoke excellent English and ensured our comfort and safety at all times. He even made a special occasion of my birthday. The scenery was spectacular and Everest Base Camp was a sight being covered with snow. Would highly recommend this company to anyone. Planning our next trek to Nepal with our children and will certainly use The Nepal Hiking Team again.

Annapurna Mini Circuit in May 2013

Eva, USA

We had a really great and perfectly organized trip. Started with pick-up at the airport, drive to a nice hotel in Kathmandu (Moonlight Hotel, next to Thamel district), Kathmandu city Tour. The next day we were picked up by our guide Prakash who was really nice and fun (yeah Prakash!!). Our porter Ras was also great. Driven by private car to Besi Sahar, which is not usual, many companies let you go by bus.

One advise: We would recommend starting the hike at Besi Sahar and saving you the “interesting” bus ride to Chamje.
Everything on the trip was perfectly well organized. In fact, we had the impression we always got the nicest rooms at the guesthouses. Food included plus we always got fresh fruit for desert which they carried for us all the way.
Had no problems with altitude sickness thanks to Prakash always making us eat garlic soup (not to nice but really helps) and making us do acclimatization walks all the time.

Not to forget the nice surprise that he had for us at the pass: Gipfelschokolade (summit chocolate)!
Flying back from Johmson, Prakash managed to get us onto the first plane which turned out to be the only one actually flying that day, the others had to stay on the ground due to bad weather. So we were among the few who made it to Phokara, the others had to wait a day.

In Phokara we had a really really great Hotel. It was also no problem when we wanted to stay an extra day and asked them to pick us up (again by private car) a day later.

Altogether, we had a really great time. Value for money was great. We’ll definitely come back for EBC.

Our Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp w/ Nepal Hiking Team

John, Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada

Both my wife and I took Annapurna Base Camp Trekking offered by Nepal Hiking Team in the middle of October, 2012. We chose this tour operator based on our Internet website review as well as the fact one of our one local hiking friends booked his Mount Everest Base Camp Trekking with this company.

Both of us are seniors but we are relatively healthy. We took this trekking with one friend couple. We found ABC trekking quite challenging. But we finished it in the end. I believe good weather we had also helped us. We are glad that we did it. When you see a glimpse of majestic mountains in a close range, you forget all about huffing and puffing and sweating to get there.

I would highly recommend Nepal Hiking Team. Their guide and porters were very able and helpful and kind. Ganga, the owner / general manger seems to be a nice gentleman. He himself picked us up at the airport and saw up off at the airport. Our guide and porters were trying to carry our own personal day packs whenever we looked exhausted especially at the end of the day. There was one thing we did not quite expect. On two occasions, the lodges (“tea house”) we were supposed to stay in particular location according to the original information package were fully “booked” and so we had to hike more or less distance to check into lodges in other location. I somehow believed that our accommodations were fully booked upon our booking. But it turned out that it was not the case.

I would like to offer a couple of suggestions in terms of what to bring. It would be good to bring (1) some kind of mask (either surgical or wood-working type): The highway between Kathmandu and Pokhara is extremely dusty and polluted with exhausts from old vehicles. I think a mask will help your mind if not your lung. (2) water purification tablets: Even though they serve boiled water, you will feel safer with additional water purification tablets having seen the source of water in some places. and (3) light weight, compact battery operated lantern: Most lodges have rudimentary solar powered electrical lighting. But during our trip power went off often and even it was on, the room always seemed to be dark. So if you want to read or do something before sleep, you definitely need some extra lighting. For me, I usually fell into sleep as soon as I got into my sleeping bag after a hard day of trekking.

Have good trekking!
