Me and my girlfriend, Karen just returned from a haunting trek to Everest Base Camp with the assistance and guidance of NHT and would like to greatly recommend them. I was in constant contact with Ganga Raj Thapa, managing director at NHT before our trip. He shared about necessary equipment to buy, how to prepare for and gave a lot of necessary information. As we reached Kathmandu, we were greeted by members of NHT at the airport who helped us check into our hotel in Kathmandu (Gaju Suites) without any fuss.
On the very first day in Kathmandu, we got to enjoy fantastic sightseeing tour of all the main historical and cultural sites. Plus, Kumar, the informative guide with good sense of humor and top of all very passionate about city made the tour more interesting. We were much impressed with NHT and the assets of Nepal. We were also introduced to our trekking guide, Deepak the day before flying to the Himalayas. Deepak also helped us to drive to the airport the next morning and took care of our flight check in and luggage.
We were prepared to give up a few luxuries during the trek, however with the aid of NHT, on the way we enjoyed best accommodation services and enjoyed lunch at the best locations. Deepak, and our porter, Khumba both added a lot of fun; they were very much engaging, generous as well as made us much comfortable.
On the way back, while descending Karen’s altitude sickness got worse which was later discovered that it was not to be taken lightly as it was caused due to fluid in her lungs from AMS. We decided to call a chopper to evacuate her out. Everything was arranged by Ganga and Deepak while Karen was able to rest. Within a couple of hours, we were in a chopper on the way to Kathmandu. As soon as we arrived, Ganga was there to help Karen get admitted in the hospital. We were quite anxious about the thought of spending a couple of nights in a far-off hospital; however NHT ensured that we were in a private hospital which was quite similar to a hotel. Once Karen got discharged, NHT picked us up from the hospital, and also drove us back to the hospital for a final check-up before flying out. This showed that NHT really care about their clients’ experiences and safety.
Trekking to the Himalayas was an incredible experience and I highly recommend it to anyone, it’s tough, and challenging- yet the landscape, the wonderful Sherpa people and the fellow friends we met along the way make it all worth it.
