The Tamang Heritage Trail is an excellent exploration of culture with the adoration of beautiful mountain views in the Langtang Region of Nepal. You would be subjected to exploring the idiosyncratic traditions and cultures of the Tamang people and will observe their day to day life at the isolated region of Langtang. Albeit taking place in the Langtang Region, trudging through the Langtang National Park is not included in this package. Rather than the park, you would be journeying to the other side of the river towards the Tibetan border of Nepal. You would be passing many dainty settlements and Tamang villages like Gatlang, Goljung, Chilime, Thuman, Timure and Briddim on the trekking journey. It presents you a wonderful opportunity to experience the unique customs of the people and will help you gain knowledge about these ethnic groups. The people residing in those villages have the perseverance of their cultures and traditions intact and their unique rituals and practices are reflected beautifully in the many monasteries, gumbas, chaityas and Bihars that line the trekking trail. The houses on the villages are ornamented opulently with intricate carvings; the people weave baskets and have a wide array of handicrafts on pristine display throughout. In the evening, the people tend to dance and sing folk songs with unique dialects and the people dress up in traditional clothing. Everything about the villages is charming and reflects delightful quintessence. As the trekking trail is relatively a newly opened journey, the cultures and customs of the people have remained true to their origins.
Trekking along the path of the Tamang Heritage Trail, you would be presented with quite a jovial experience. The vibrant colorful clothes and traditional dresses worn by the people, the intricately ornamented houses with fascinating craftworks along with magnificent views of the mountains in the serenity of the verdantly lush environment present a beautiful picturesque paradise. Day 1: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu
You may arrive in Kathmandu at any time. Our airport representative will welcome you and explain the program further. There are no planned activities for the day, so you may check into the hotel. Enjoy your overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour
You would be undergoing a sightseeing tour of World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu valley, which includes excursing Kathmandu Durbar Square, the holy Swayambhunath Temple, Bouddhanath Stupa and the Pashupatinath Temple. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.
Day 3: Drive to Syabru Bensi (1462m/4795ft) Duration: 7 hrs
You will have a drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi, which takes about seven hours by jeep. You will head north out of Kathmandu, driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Bensi passing through Dhunche. While passing along the road at the bank of the Trishuli River, you can catch a glimpse of the Ganesh Himal, terrace farmlands wet with rice and mustard plantations and green hills enveloped in emerald forests. As you pass through Dhunche, you will feel as if you are heading towards deep land. At the same time, you will notice that the road is still under construction. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 4: Syabru Bensi- Gatlang (2238m/7340ft) 5 hrs
You can observe the different traditional villages along your way. The cultural show at Goljung and Gatlang is bound to make your trekking journey an unforgettable one. Gatlang, set high on a hillside among terraced fields, is a Tamang settlement. One can visit a Tamang monastery and beautiful the Parvathi Kunda Lake at Gatlang. Overnight at community lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 5: Gatlang - Tatopani (2607m/8550ft) Duration: 5-6
On the way, you shall enjoy sightseeing of the Langtang range and of the Ganesh Himal. The experience of the Tamang culture at Tatopani, which translates to “hot water”, you can take hot bath in the natural hot springs with bathing areas in the lap of the mountains. Another cultural village- Thuman, is popular for its Shamanic performances and beautiful views of Langtang ranges. The panoramic view of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal and the Sanjen ranges can be distinctly experienced from Nagthali. Nagthali used to be a popular meditation center for the local monks and priests. Overnight at community lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 6: Thuman -Timur (1762m/5780ft) Duration: 5 hrs
Timure is on the old trade route to Tibet. A fort here is a historical reminder of the Nepal Tibetan relations that has existed for many centuries. Overnight at community lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included
Day 7: Timur –Briddim (2337m/7665ft) Duration: 6 hrs
Briddim, it is a Tibetan Buddhist village in the bosom of Langtang Himal. Around 43 houses are spread in Z shape. Most of the houses are made up of stones and have roofs of split slate. As direct descendant of ancient Tibetan immigrants, the culture and tradition of Briddim closely resembles that of nearly Tibetan villages. Overnight at community lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 8: Briddim - Syabru Bensi (1467m/4795ft) Duration: 5-6 hrs
This day, the trail moves gently descending through villages, terraced farmlands and magnificent views of surrounded hills. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 9: Syabru Bensi to Kathmandu
A scenic drive back to Kathmandu by jeep will be done today, which takes approximately 6 hrs. Overnight at hotel, breakfast and lunch included.
Day 10: Farewell
Approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight a representative from Nepal Hiking Team will take you to the airport.
