Trip Overview

Lower Dolpo trek is an exciting 18 days journey to relish the pristine beauty and rugged terrain in one of the remote places of Nepal. The lower Dolpo was opened for trekking in 1989 however the region has remained untouched and unexplored due to its isolated location. The lower Dolpo lies in an isolated corner in the Trans Himalayas of Nepal which is naturally very rich in Himalayan valleys and resembles to the Tibetan highlands. Lower Dolpo Trek is a superb combination of mountain views, high passes, fantastic landscape, lush valleys, beautiful lakes with Tibetan Buddhist influenced culture with nomadic people who practice their ancient traditional culture and lifestyle.

The 18 days Lower Dolpo Trek begins from Jhupal that takes us to some outstanding remote locations that lies in the backdrop of beautiful Himalayas. The colourful barren slopes of the mountains are alluring that reflects the wilderness of the region. We walk through the virgin territory that is very rarely walked by outsiders. The trail to Lower Dolpo graces three high passes namely Kangmara La, Baga La and Numa La which is a great achievement of our journey. The trek to Lower Dolpo is quite strenuous as you have to endure the harsh climate and dry rugged terrain. The pleasing moment of cherishing the beauty of tranquil Phoksundo Lake is the major attraction of this trekking journey.

The trail to Lower Dolpo passes through Shey Phoksundo National Park therefore, Lower Dolpo Trek is an opportunity to encounter varieties of unique floras and faunas. The people residing in this area are simple, helpful and friendly. The people residing in this region are the descendants of Tibetan who still practice pre Buddhist Bon religion. Their lifestyle is very simple and traditional. They have their own unique dialect that resembles the Tibetan language. If you are ready for the challenge of trekking to Lower Dolpo region of Nepal, then contact Nepal Hiking Team. With the general permit to Shey Phoksundo wildlife reserve and special permit to Lower Dolpo region, NHT will do its best to make your journey worth it!

Hareth Alsaadi, Phillipines I went for Everest base camp trip by mid-Dec 2021. I was a little worried as I never went trekking in my entire life.. however, i did a lot of research and came across Nepal Hiking Team so I decided after much thought to go with them Initially, I was in contact with Ganga the CEO of the company... i was highly satisfied with his interaction and communication with me right from the beginning.. i had so many questions and concerns regarding the trip and he was able to guide me and answer me all my inquiries... the on-boarding process was smooth and easy.. when i arrived in Nepal I found everything ready starting from the person picking me up from the airport, the hotel, some equipment for the trek, full introductory meeting on what to expect from the journey, all ground transportation, and even before i left Nepal after the trek.. a PCR staff was provided and came to my hotel... As for my trekking guide Prakash. i am truly happy that i had him as my guide.. a very spectacular human being.. he was more than a guide.. he was a great companion as well.. he ensured that i was having a good time.. continuously shared his expertise of mountains, Sherpa people, and Nepalese culture.. he always went the extra mile to support me... even at days when it was tough for me to continue due to altitude sickness.. he encouraged me and inspired me not to give up on this lifetime journey.. he always puts health and safety first.. Despite all the challenges of Everest Base Camp trek.. but i am very glad i did it... and i did it with an excellent group of people.. Nepal Hiking Team.. i highly recommend them for anyone intends to go trekking in Nepal. Read this review on trip advisor (click here)
Peter, United States of America My friend and I recently spent 2 weeks in Nepal, guided by the Nepal Hiking Team. Our original trek was canceled by an international company,  and the Nepal Hiking Team stepped in flawlessly. Ganga answered all of our questions, had our safety as his top concern always, was flexible, and was gracious with his hospitality. From Kathmandu, Pokhara, to the various tea villages, all the way to ABC, our Nepal Hiking Team was phenomenal. Our guide Arjun and porter Prem were first class, helping us navigate and learn about the terrain, giving us sage advice, and also making sure we had a great time (thanks for the wine!). I felt truly connected with them and it was hard to leave! A massive thank you to the entire team. Let's summit one of those monsters together soon!
William Belue, USA Nepal Hiking was incredible starting with the airport pick up all the way to drop off at the end of the trip. I had a scenario in which the airline lost my luggage and NHT arrange for my boots to be delivered via helicopter. This alone speaks to the level of care they provide their clients. Our guide, Bal, was one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve had the opportunity to meet and his attention to detail truly made this experience for me. The accommodations, food, gear, etc all blew my expectations out of the water. If you are looking for a guided Nepal experience, please look no further. I met other trekkers along my journey who were paying more and receiving less. This trip was a surprise birthday present and I am already planning my next trip back. Ahmed, USA Joined recently for an Everest Base Camp tour and it was simply spectacular! The team was well equipped with all logistics and planning and Ganga did a fantastic job with communication before and during the trip too. As for the trip itself, it far exceeded expectations as we got lucky with great clear weather and really enjoying our hiking. Our tour guide Bal was excellent as he had a lot of previous experience, very knowledgeable, friendly, and a fun person. The accommodations and food were good too. Overall I would highly recommend Nepal Hiking Team to others. Note: Read this review on Tripadvisor (Click here)
Dave, USA Had a truly great time in the mountains with the Nepal Hiking Team. Arrived from the Pacific Northwest with my boomer mom to trek to Everest Base Camp. (Made it.) Our group included four other ladies who’d met in college and were reconnecting. Was tough going at times but the NHT crew led us well. Our guides and porters were professional, kind, generous, and attentive. Their work was difficult—carrying our extra stuff, monitoring our conditions as we gained altitude, maintaining morale if/when it flagged, teaching us about Nepali and Sherpa culture, and showing us the way—and they all performed legendarily. Ganga and Raj put a lot of thought into making our trek enjoyable. They took great care of my mom and were very proactive with those who faced any altitude-related issues. I’m no world traveler or experienced backpacker, but this trip felt particularly fun and special. It awakened in me a far greater curiosity for travel. The mountain experience—organized by Ganga and led by Raj and his team of guides and porters—will be a cherished memory. Our NHT crew were all good people. I enjoyed their company and guidance immensely. We fly home this evening from Kathmandu and I’m already excited to return with friends, family, or solo. I look forward to trekking with NHT, Ganga, and Raj again. Read this review on Tripadvisor.
