Trip Overview
The Gokyo Lake Renjo La Pass Trek is one of the most spectacular walks in the Himalayas of the Khumbu region. If you’re looking for the ultimate Everest experience but want to avoid the busier route, this trek makes the perfect match.
It combines just about everything — the majestic view of the Himalayas, high mountain pass, tranquil lakes, colorful Sherpa villages, ancient monasteries, and mesmerizing landscapes. It lets you immerse in the Khumbu region’s natural, cultural, and spiritual elements.
The Gokyo Lake Renjo La Pass Trek does not take you to the Everest Base Camp. Instead, it unfolds the raw and remote beauty of the region.
Trudging through the Sherpa villages and yak pastures, this trek takes you to the Gokyo Valley, where you can stand next to the pristine Gokyo Lakes. Besides that, you’ll also get the opportunity to hike to the viewpoint of Gokyo Ri at 5,360 meters. From the top, you’ll get to relish the panorama of the Mahalangur Himal, including Everest, Cho-Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse, Cholatse, and Pumori.
Another highlight of this Gokyo Lake Renjo La Pass Trek is crossing the mountain pass, Renjo La Pass, at 5,340 meters. Renjo La is one of three high passes in the Everest region. The steep uphill of this mountain pass is likely to test your endurance and physical fitness. However, the rewarding view from the top and the feeling of triumph is worth the effort!
Like most treks in the Everest region, the Gokyo Lake Renjo La Pass Trek begins with an unforgettable flight to Lukla. Then, you’ll make your way from one Sherpa village to another, enjoying the best hallmarks. You’ll spend a couple of nights at Namche Bazaar, Khumbu’s Sherpa Capital, to acclimatize to the thin air.
On the acclimatization day, you’ll visit the Everest View Hotel, one of the world’s highest luxury hotels at 3,880 meters. After that, you’ll walk past several beautiful villages, including Dole, Lambara, Luza, and Machhermo, to reach the pristine valley of Gokyo. After relishing the sight of the Gokyo Lakes, you’ll hike to the famous Gokyo Ri at 5,360 meters to enjoy the panoramic sight of the Himalayas.
Consequently, you’ll cross the Renjo La Pass at 5,340 meters and descend to the remote valley of Lunden. On the next day, you’ll make your way to the beautiful village of Thame. Here, you’ll also have the opportunity to visit the ancient monastery of Thame and witness the spiritual side of the Everest region.
After that, you’ll head back to Namche Bazaar and then to Lukla. You’ll fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla to conclude your Gokyo Lake Renjo La Pass Trek.
