Tamang Heritage Trail Trek

The Tamang heritage trek takes tourists into the preserved regions of Nepal. The trek is dotted with scenic green midlands and ancient monasteries.

The main highlights of the trek include visiting the Tamang monasteries, Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda and Dudhkunda Lakes. Magnificent views of many high mountains such as the Ganesh Himal and Jugal Himal will keep you company throughout the trek. Moreover, about 70 glaciers can be found on the way. The trek is perfect for those looking to revel in nature’s unadulterated beauty. If you are game for more, you may even take a healing bath in the natural hot springs.

There’s an old tale according to which several years ago there was a fight between Nepal and Tibet for salt. The remnants of the war can still be seen with people still using the trail to barter for salt and meat.

The trek begins with visiting the Kathmandu valley, Kathmandu Darbar square, Swayambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa & Pasupatinath Temple. Time is believed to have stood still for villages in this remote part of Nepal. People of the valley still believe in the simple way of living life. During the trek tourists are presented with several opportunities to be a part of the native’s lives. Untouched by modern civilisation the Tamang heritage trail follows into the core of the most remote yet prettiest places in Nepal. Because of being close to Tibet, the culture of the people in this part of Nepal bears striking resemblance to that followed by Tibetans.

The Thuman –Timur trail that falls on the way of the trek will remind you of the bygone era. A fort situated in Timur stands testimony to the time when the history of Tibet and this part of Nepal overlapped. In Briddim, a Tibetan Buddhist village, people live in houses that are spread in a peculiar shape of the English alphabet Z. The duration of the trek is 11 days. The best time to visit is Jan - May and Sept – Dec. group sizes may vary between 2 to 12.
