Langtang Gosaikunda Trek

Gosainkunda Trek program is an opportunity to explore relatively unspoiled and less developed section of Nepal while being near from the capital. Several great days of pleasant Langtang Gosainkunda trek through dense forest and traditional ethnic settlements takes you to the alpine yak pastures of Kyangin gompa and holy lakes at Gosaikunda. The Gosainkunda trek combines the diversity of spectacular views of Langtang valley and the snow clad Himalayas with a vast number of exciting ethnic encounters. Besides the magnificent views of snow covered white giants of Langtang mountain range, the majestic waterfalls following over mammoth boulders, a chance to bathe in appeasing hot springs, rhododendron, oak and bamboo forests that hosts abundant wildlife, visit to scared lakes of Gosainkunda, the gompas and monasteries of Langtang valley are among the many highlights of Gosainkunda Trek.

The Gosainkunda trek program begins in Kathmandu with exploration of ancient temples, monasteries, and palaces. The next day, after 6-7 hours drive we reach Syabrubesi, an interesting traditional village on the bank of Bhote Kosi River and the starting point of our trek. The trail slowly gains elevation as we make our way through oak, rhododendron, and bamboo forests along the Langtang Khola. If lucky you might be able to spot many faunas that Langtang region hosts including the shy red panda. Upon reaching Langtang valley we explore Sherpa villages and at Kyanjing Gompa (3,798m) we experience the spiritual lifestyle of dedicated Buddhist monks who perform their rituals in the monastery there. An ascend to Tserko Ri (5,050m) early in the morning offers a marvelous view of the Langtang ranges -Gangchenpo (5,846 m.), Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m), and many more but the Langtang Lirung (7,246 m) seems the most dominating one. If we get time, we can commence a short hike to glacial moraine of Langtang Lirung. There will also be the opportunity of visiting a traditional cheese factory, where the product is manufactured manually.

Once in Thulo Syabru (2250 m), we can relish magnificent views of the towering snow-covered Ganesh Himal (7110 m) and Langtang -II (7,230 m) peaks. Moving on to the pilgrimage site of Gosainkunda, we watch the sun rise over the shimmering Lakes.  The land hosts 108 scared lakes and Saraswati Kunda, Bhairab Kunda, Surya Kunda and Gosainkunda are the famous ones.  It is believed that Lord Shiva created the holy lakes with his trident. From the top of Laurebinayak pass (4,609m), we observe spectacular view of Tibet! We descend steeply to Gopte for overnight rest. Further descending ahead we leave Langtang valley and march towards Helambu valley through Kutumsang and Chisapani enjoying beautiful mountain views as usual days. Upon reaching Sundarijal we drive back to Kathmandu.
